Cheche Lazaro is the founding President of Probe Productions Inc. and Probe Media Foundation Inc. (PMFI). Lazaro was also the host of The Probe Team, the first and longest - running investigative newsmagazine show in the country. The show has won several local and international awards for its factual content and good production values.
University professor turned broadcast journalist, Cheche first burst into the male-dominated media scene working with the American Broadcasting Corp. in 1985 during the twilight of the Marcos dictatorship. She has won the respect of her peers and the public as a reporter and producer of pioneering television programs such as The Probe Team, 5 and Up (an educational show for the youth), Cheche Lazaro Presents (a lifestyle and leisure travelogue), Gameplan (a sports program) and Probe Profiles (a public affairs show).
She was given the “Gawad Plaridel Award” by the University of the Philippines for her significant contributions to local television and broadcast journalism. She has received two doctorates of humanities (honoris causa) from the Philippine Women’s University and the Ateneo de Naga University. Cheche is also the recipient of the Marshal McLuhan Fellowship.
In its 30 year - run as a production company, Probe has put together an extensive collection of archival material. Probe Archives is now digitally converted and made accessible to the general public.
PMFI, for its part, continues to train media practitioners in the country and from all over the ASEAN region.
Today, former members of Probe Productions continue to make positive contributions to local and international media organizations. Of this, Cheche is most proud.
